Festival Report

Saturday saw the stonking return of "Trogg And The Mad Dogs" at Littlehampton festival "Pebbles On The Beach" and it was certainly worth the wait. The Dogs shared the stage with famous 70’s punk rocker "Rat Scabies", who was playing with well renowned band "The Members". Dave as per usual excited the crowd for what was to come, this time by climbing on the PA stack on the right of the stage. Brian Heartleys guitar solo’s certainly got the crowd begging for more Dave even sunk to his knees and bowed to the mesmerising finger picking while drummer, Jeff Turner looked on from behind his drum domain and with The Light bassist Damian Walsh kept the funky beat pounding.  The audience were distraught when Dave announced that it was their last number, and a roar of "encores" could be heard for miles. The Mad Dogs were clearly one of the best bands of the day, and eased back into their old seats like they were never away.

A grand rendition of "Psycho Killer"got the toes tapping of merry locals. The Light were the first English/Austrian band, and the first Austrian musicians to play at the festival. Well done lads!

Fantastic News

All the hard work has finaly paid off. The band have been playing as many gigs as they can both in the u.k and in europe this has meant Dave popping backwards and forwards which incidently he enjoys very much.

Completely out of the blue "want to come and play in Austria?" well I would have been a fool to turn that down. Not a single dull moment. These guys are great, the music kicks ass, the boys kick ass, the hospitality kicks ass - I can´t wait to get to the "Cultbar". I don´t ever want to leave. Cheers everyone genuinely cannot thank you enough for this truly amazing experience.

"The Light" plays "Tepperwein Collection"

Saturday the 10th of july saw the return of "The Light" to the Heuboda (Brand-Austria). The boys rocked out and entertained the good people at the end of a week long convention for "Tepperwein Collection". Alex, Noti and Dave plus guest bassplayer Jon Cooper from England had the revellers dancing and singing along until the small hours.
The band have been writing and recording their original songs and as a special treat Remo (MD) from "Tepperwein Collection" organized a video shoot promo of some of their own material. It´s in the cutting room now, so watch this space. Next gig for Jon will be at the "Cultbar" in St. Gallen in Switzerland on thursday the 15th of july. The guys are pleased and proud to have played with Jon and of course most grateful for stepping in at the 11th hour.

The Light find Atlantis

The town of Bludenz saw The Light recently when the band played a killer show at Club Atlantis. Fans of the group rubbed shoulders with newbie gig-goers to pack-out the crowded dance-floor as the Long Way boys delivered a blistering performance in their first gig at this new venue.

The Light were playing their first full-electric show in some while, and they employed a powerful new soundsystem to make sure that their music made the walls shake. Amidst the swirling disco lighting and glitzy nightclub ambience, the band played songs of love, of life and of inspiration - whilst delivering a few new tricks for those who had been to see their earlier European shows.

Fronting the band and beguiling the attentive crowd, Dave wrung the very essence of The Light from his new Breedlove acoustic guitar.  The world-weary voice spoke of  distant Scottish Isles, life journeys and of hope restored.  The band‘s own material evoked a great response from the Austrian crowd, with many of them singing the lyrics to Kev Fitch‘s widescreen homage to the power of the mountains - “Lay on Me“.

Damian and Noti - The Light‘s powerhouse rhythm section - made every beat count, and one could see how much they were enjoying being reunited in the natural bond which has always locked together the talented Drummer and Bassist. Damian was clearly delighted to be playing on Austrian soil once again, and had brought his beloved Warwick Thumb Bass from England to illuminate proceedings with it‘s famous green LED lights competing with the Club Atlantis lightshow.

The Band‘s Austrian Guitarist Alex Beck was on fine form, and wandered out far into the crowd to deliver his soaring trademark solos which had members of the audience in raptures... One fan was even seen frenetically licking the  neck of Alex‘s Telecaster mid-way through a particularly expressive instrumental section!

After a rollercoaster three hour show the band finally closed the night at 3a.m. with their traditional romp through The Waterboy‘s “Fisherman‘s Blues“ with the Bludenz audience singing and dancing their way through the classic stomp.  The Light rocked Atlantis, and left the crowd hungry for more... The band‘s forthcoming show at Miami Roundhouse in Kolbech is the next chance to satisfy that hunger...

The Light rockt die Schweiz

Vergangenen Samstag rockten "The Light" in St. Gallen in der Cultbar.

The Pirate is back

Heimat.
Schon vorweg am 5. Juni für das Konzert im Roadhouse, dürfen wir Damian Walsh aus England, als Bassist begrüssen.

Heuboda

On the 5th March The "Heuboda–Brand", welcomed "The Light boys" as their first live rockband of this genre, used to entertaining the crowds with "Schlager" music and the pop rock scene, the Heuboda took a chance with The Light as a deviant of their usual music scene.
This worked out in their favour as the place heaved people through the doors all night. Excited chatter and tapping feet could be heard as the boys stormed through their first number "Turn On Tune In". It was definitely guest bassist Heli Luger’s night as he stormed through his unique slap-funk bass solo in "Feel Like Makin Love" and "Good Excuse".
The night ended in the crowd barricading the guys on stage encouraging them to play more, two encores later they agreed it was a great end to a fantastic gig and are looking forward to playing there again.

K & K Lustenau Gig

Last night the boys performed a stonking gig in a small and friendly Indian resteraunt and bar 'K&K' in Lustenau. Locals informed that "The Light" were the best band they had seen perform there, and my did they perform.
Opening with a classic song, their name sake "Longway To The Light" certainly got the approving tapping of toes! The three piece tonight featured Dave, Alex and Noti playing the Cajon and they created a perfect rendition to their own heartfelt "Lay On Me" (written by Kevin Fitch) the night was a huge success and have been asked back for more dates.
(great food too!!)

Giving The Light Their Last "Crown" Of The Year

The UK band said there two- month farewell on the 14th November at "The Crown" in Littlehampton. A whopping estimated 350 people came in through the doors that night to say goodbye to their favourite local band and are eagerly waiting their return. The band opened with a stonking cover of "Time" a very apt song for the band at a particular time for them in those last weeks.  Dave was performing his best despite a stint in hospital which thankfully he has recovered from, and he needed to as well considering knickers were thrown at him during the performance. A big white pair of signed Grandma-knickers were thrown as well as one of his girl-friend’s own pink thong which were much appreciated by the curly-haired singer.

Damian Dark-side, was bumping out the tunes with his Warwick Thumb Bass and really getting into "Comfortably Numb", his performance was energetic and fun especially when he got out his big wood...no not that,  his Ned Steinberger Wav 4  to finish off "Danger Danger".
Kev was equally on form running his fingers up and down playing their exciting pumped up version of "Whole Lot Of Rosie" and their own feather soft yet passionate  "Lay On Me"  the wasn’t a dry eye in the house through the songs of "Iona" and "Drops of Jupiter" (which can be seen on The Light’s new Facebook fan page)

Mark was extra enthusiastic about this bon voyage of gigs and made his way through the catchy "Are You Gonna Be My Girl". The band greatly pulled together as tight as ever before, their talent flying this way and that for everyone to see, it was almost criminal that they didn’t have a cascade of top-hat-clad beauties high kicking their way to the final finale songs of the night.
They invited guitarist Darragh Monahan of "Nakedium" and 70’s rock covers "Highway Jones"  up to jam for their breath-taking version of "Free Bird" as with "The Light" anything goes, and we don’t mind a bit! The atmosphere was electric, as they glided through the every so catchy "Everybody Takes A Tumble" and the crowd very nearly did take the lyrics literally! Everybody was up singing and dancing and the beer was flowing, a great goodbye for The Light to return again to England in February having yet learned and written more sublime musical masterpieces!
Watch this space 2010, this band is certainly infectious....and we don’t mind catching a bit of it!!!!

"The Light" at LA Pebbles on the Beach

The European line up of rising band "The Light" were the icing on the cake for Littlehampton based charity rock festival ‘Pebbles On The Beach 2009’ This was the first time the full European line up, Trogg, Alex, Noti, Kev and Damian have played together in the UK. The waiting was over for the band as they stormed into their first number their own shining track "Lay On Me". The crowd instantly picked up after a long day and were laughing and dancing along with the awesome energy The Light pulled out.
The highlighted song of their set, which unlocks different memories for everyone was definitely "Peace Of Iona". The band shows another side as they glide effortlessly through the intricacy of the tribute song to the Scottish island. Velvet like vocals from Dave mixed with spine tingling notes from the rest of the band proved to be the perfect end to a day of fun and music. Their closing number was "Danger Danger (High Voltage)" and were joined on stage by a hula hoop dancer, who took the middle of the stage. So where did the wily Trogg go to sing? The top of the PA stack of course, singing to a sea of bobbing heads shocking to some, but the band laughed as they know his typical behavior.  So that was that, "The Light" have taken the UK by force, encouraging English fans to take holidays to Austria to see them in action again. And what else did they learn from the experience? Noti doesnt like marmite!
